Portfolio piece - an illustration of the one and only DJ Shadow. With a giant robot. In Tokyo. Yeah, this is pretty much a picture of the inside of my head.

For those who are intersted in such matters: for this piece, I started with rough pencil sketches of DJ Shadow and the robot. I then inked and coloured Shadow digitally using my usual method. For the robot I did something a little different - using the sketch as a frame / skeleton, I then used lots of photographs of turntables and speakerboxes, distorting, resizing and reshaping them using the Transform tools in Photoshop to construct the form of the robot. I then filled in the gaps, added shading and finished off with the Brush tool.

A very quick and dirty method compared to actual 3D modelling, but I think it works nicely here.
